Spay—Ovariohysterectomy—surgically remove the ovaries and uterus

  • Spayed females don’t go into heat—no bleeding, no mess
  • Spayed females don’t have accidental pregnancies
  • Spayed females don’t get pyometra—a toxic infected uterus
  • Spayed females have a reduced chance of getting breast cancer

Neuter—surgically remove the testicles

  • Neutered males are less likely to roam, be territorial or aggressive
  • Neutered males are less likely to develop an enlarged prostate
  • Neutered males are less likely to develop certain tumors

*Most cities in Los Angeles County charge more to license pets that have not been spayed or neutered

*Unincorporated Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles require most pets to be spayed and neutered. 

*The State of California has a bill pending to require all pets be spayed or neutered
